2012 Running Review
Wow, what a year! I feel so blessed with everything I accomplished in 2012.
Early in the year, I was selected to run for the Oiselle Team. I am so honored to be part of this amazing group of ladies. They are all very inspiring and motivating!
I trained throughout the heat and humidity of the summer and rocked the Don McCluskey Seafood Festival 5k in September with a PR of 25:43, shaving almost 3 minutes. This was my very first 5k in Pensacola in 2011.
My best race experience would have to be the Pensacola Half Marathon in November. I met another runner around mile 3, who ended up sticking with me the entire race. We pretty much pushed each other to a PR. I ended up with a 19 minute improved time from last year. This was my second half marathon.
I logged exactly 990 miles of running. Gosh, 10 away from 1000. Looks like I’ll be adding that to my goals list for 2013!
In late November I started training for my first full marathon and ran my longest run of 15 miles. Unfortunately, the weekend I was supposed to do my next longest run of 17 miles, I had a gallstone attack, was admitted to the hospital and had surgery to remove the gallstones and my gallbladder. Now, because of recovery, I will not be able to train properly to run the Mercedes-Benz Marathon in February. I’m disappointed but it’s going to be okay because there will be some many other marathons I can choose to run.
My running in 2012 was definitely amazing! I am so grateful that I went through the year injury-free. I proved to myself that hard work really does pay off. I also proved to myself that I have more push in me, even at 40. I am very excited at what 2013 has to offer!

Good for you! A year injury free is always a victory, and you went well above and beyond all that!
Thank you Amanda!!
Yay! What a great year
You’re right – there will be a slew of marathons that you’ll be more than ready for in the coming season! Kudos to being injury free. I’m still battling my cranky hip, still pushing through it, but hoping to figure out something soon with it!
Thanks Rebecca! I hope you find a solution for your hip soon too!
You’re AMAZING!!! WOW! I also started training for a marathon in 2010 and made it to 14 miles only to be sidelined by foot issues. I came back in 2011 to finish what I started, and you will too!
Thank you so much!! Thank you for the inspiring words!
What a great year of running! I look forward to following your training in 2013. Have a safe and Happy New Year!
Thanks Lisa! I hope, no I know it’s going to be a good year of running!
Oh man! What a bummer about your gallbladder! You still had such an amazing year. 1000 miles is going to be one of my 2013 goals
Yes, it’s a bummer but so glad I resolved the problem! 1000 miles is a great goal!
Wow! What a year you had. I am a new follower to your blog and cant wait to see whats up for next year. Hope your recovery is going well and you can get back out there soon!!
