Do you know about Handana?

I would like to share some information about a new product I was introduced to while at The Running Event in December.

Handana, a high performance fashionable sweatband. It is made of supplex lycra, soft like cotton but wicking and faster drying than cotton. They are available in 5 sizes and over 16 colors.

Handana

The Handana was created by Katie Niemeyer from Austin, TX. Many years ago she was diagnosed with SJS, Stephens-Johnson Syndrome, an autoimmune reaction causing your skin to blister to the point of 2nd to 3rd degree burns. When she started running, the SJS left her eyes very sensitive and when sweat dripped into them they would burn badly to the point of not being able to complete her run. She started to wrap a bandana around her hand to wipe the sweat and eventually the Handana was created. It wraps around your hand, not your wrist, leaving fingers and wrist free for movement. You can use both sides to wipe sweat.

Here is a great video with Katie explaining a little more about Handana.

Handana can be purchased online and coming to specialty stores near you. If you live in the Gulf Coast of Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi or Louisiana and would like to see these in your speciality running or yoga stores, please let me know.

  1. Very cool! And inventive too – plus it actually looks nice as well:)

  2. That is a really neat concept! I can’t believe how many cool running related products there are on the market.

I love it because I’m one to sweat ALOT and try to use my shirt (which usually is soaked from sweat too) to dry my eyes. I was blown away while at The Running Event. Really cool stuff out there!

  3. I’ve heard of them… they look great for those long hot sweaty runs. Not sure if I could use it because I have severe eczema on my hand and moisture makes it worse, but I can see how people would love these, great idea!

    • Regina says:

Lisa, I asked Katie and she said it is polyester made to feel like cotton, yet has abilities to wick away the moisture and dry quicker than cotton. So it is actually going to wick away the moisture from the skin on your hand. Although eczema is tricky and can be sensitive so you may want to check one out on a shorter run. :)

    OOOH I want.
    I NEED.

  5. I seriously love these. I sometimes wear a sweatband around my arm, but these are thinner and better. And I have a lot of wiping to do during a race. Gross, but it’s gotta be done.
